MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of Montevallo baseball team dropped a doubleheader against host Georgia College 14-2 and 6-5 in the final two games of a Peach Belt Conference series March 21.
The Falcons fell to 12-12 overall and 8-7 in Peach Belt Conference play after dropping a conference series for the first time this season.
Senior Vinny Rodriguez led the Falcons offensively as the Bobcats held off the Falcons in a 6-5 setback in the nightcap. Rodriguez, who drove in three runs and scored two runs, finished 2-for-4 at the plate with his first homer of the season to go along with a double.
Junior Steven Knudson homered for the 12th time this year in the nightcap, finishing 1-for-4 at the plate with the solo homer. Knudson is second nationally in NCAA Division II with 12 blasts this season.
Sophomore Alex Jones went 1-for-4 at the plate and drove in one run, while senior Cody White finished 1-for-2 at the plate and scored one run.
Freshman Drew Mullinax (1-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing two earned runs on two hits in 1 1/3 innings in relief.
Senior Alec Stiver paced the Falcons offensively in a 14-2 loss to the Bobcats in the first game of the doubleheader as he finished 2-for-4 at the plate and scored one run.
Rodriguez went 1-for-3 at the plate and scored one run. Sophomore Dane Hutcheon finished 1-for-1 at the plate and drove in one run, while Jones went 1-for-4 at the plate and drove in one run.
Junior Chase Bryant went 1-for-2 at the plate, while freshman Chad Wagner finished 1-for-3 at the dish.
Junior starter Landon Smith (1-3) was tagged with the loss after allowing nine runs, including six earned runs, on 11 hits with six strikeouts and one walk in six innings on the mound.
Freshman Mason McDougall pitched one hitless inning in relief with one strikeout and one walk.
The Falcons will look to bounce back Tuesday, March 24 at Kermit A. Johnson Field in a non-conference contest against Miles College.
First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
