HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons flipped the script after surrendering a lead in the fifth set in a loss to Georgia College in their Peach Belt Conference opener Friday night. Montevallo overcame a deficit late in the fifth set to record their first conference victory with a 3-2 win over the Jaguars.
GRU Augusta jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the opening set, but it didn't faze the Falcons as they kept their cool by responding with a 4-0 run of their own and rallying for a 25-22 win in the frame. A kill by sophomore Kristy Bohan tied the set at 18-18 before an attack error by the Jaguars gave Montevallo a lead it wouldn't relinquish down the stretch.
The Jaguars held off the Falcons in the second set as they escaped with a 26-24 victory in the frame. The set was a tight battle throughout, with neither team leading by more than three points during the frame. GRU Augusta broke a 24-24 tie and a kill by the Jaguars' Rachel Windle clinched the set for the hosts.
Montevallo capped the third set with a 5-1 run on its way to a 25-18 win in the frame. A kill by senior Rebekah Phelps gave the Falcons a 13-12 lead midway through the frame and Montevallo led the remainder of the set. Phelps also clinched the set with a kill to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead in the match.
GRU Augusta tied the match at 2-2 with a 25-13 win in the fourth set. The Jaguars raced out to a 9-3 lead in the frame on their way to the 12-point win in the set, capping the frame with a 8-3 run.
The Falcons clinched the victory with a 15-12 win in the fifth and final set. Trailing 12-10, Montevallo ended the match with a 5-0 run to stun the Jaguars. Bohan, senior Briana Marquez and junior Chandler Cooper each recorded a kill during the run to close out the victory.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Four Falcons finished with double-digit kills in the victory. Bohan and Cooper led the way with 13 kills each, while seniors Rebekah Phelps and Nicole Holton contributed 10 kills each.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS
Marquez finished with a team-high 42 assists to go along with 10 digs as she recorded her second consecutive double-double and fourth of the season.
Holton recorded 10 kills and 10 digs as she posted her third double-double of the season.
GRU Augusta finished with a .500 attack percentage in the fourth set of the match, marking the highest attack percentage by an opponent against the Falcons this season. The Jaguars managed just a .095 attack percentage in the final set.

The Falcons will have a week off before returning to action Saturday, Sept. 26 in a tri-match on the Carson-Newman College campus in Jefferson City, Tennessee. The Falcons will face host Carson-Newman and Coker College in a pair of matches.
