HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons overcame an early 8-4 deficit against the Cobras in the opening set before rallying for a 25-19 win in the frame. Montevallo went on a 9-0 run midway through the set, with senior Nicole Holton and sophomore Kristy Bohan each providing a pair of kills during the run.
The two teams traded points early in the second set before a kill by Phelps gave the Falcons a 6-5 lead in the frame. Montevallo didn't look back on its way to another 25-19 victory in the second set.
The Falcons closed out the match with a 25-17 in the third set. Montevallo opened the frame with a 9-3 run with Bohan providing three kills early in the set. Sophomore Breana Thomas provided the final kill to clinch the match.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Senior setter Briana Marquez finished with an impressive .833 attack percentage, with five kills on six attacks. The Falcons' primary setter also contributed a team-high 33 assists and two service aces.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS
Senior Rebekah Phelps finished with a season-best .556 attack percentage. The Huntsville, Alabama native and preseason All-Peach Belt Conference selection contributed 11 kills in the victory.
Senior Carissa Bell, the co-Libero of the Year in the Peach Belt Conference a year ago, recorded a team-high 10 digs in the win. Bell has registered double-digit digs in 11 of the Falcons' 13 matches this year.
The Falcons posted an attack percentage of .300 or higher in all three sets for the second time this season in a 3-0 victory. Montevallo registered a match-high .345 attack percentage in the third and final set.
