HOW IT HAPPENED
Montevallo senior Jacquelyn Thompson's hot shooting from beyond the arc sparked the Falcons as they defeated the Hurricanes 63-52 to pick up their first Peach Belt Conference victory.
Thompson drained two of her four 3-pointers in the game in the first three minutes to help Montevallo jump out to a 8-2 lead.
A jumper by Va'Queshia Hall with 1:10 remaining in the opening period gave Georgia Southwestern a 11-10 advantage, marking the Hurricanes first lead in the contest. A layup by senior Katie Colson in the final seconds of the period put the Falcons back on top 12-11 after the first 10 minutes.
Montevallo stretched its lead to 16-11 following a 3-pointer by Thompson with 9:10 remaining in the first half. Georgia Southwestern responded with a 10-4 run, capped with a pair of free throws by Ja'Quasha Sesler with 5:34 remaining in the half to give the Hurricanes a 21-20 advantage, their final lead of the half.
The Falcons closed the half with a 11-2 run and carried a 31-23 lead into the locker room at halftime following a 3-pointer by Thompson with 1:25 remaining in the first half.
Georgia Southwestern trimmed the deficit to 37-36 on a layup by Yvonna Dunkley with 4:47 remaining in the third period. Montevallo responded with a 11-4 run to end the period and took a 48-40 lead into the fourth period after Thompson capped the period with a jumper with four seconds remaining.
A layup by Hall trimmed the Falcons' lead to 50-46 with 6:57 left in the contest before a quick 5-0 spurt by Montevallo took away any doubt in the outcome. A jumper by junior Courtney McKenzie with 1:43 remaining in the game gave the Falcons a 60-50 lead, marking their first double-digit lead in the contest.

Montevallo shot 66.7 percent (10-of-15) at the charity stripe, while the Hurricanes made only 33.3 percent (4-of-12) of their attempts at the free-throw line.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS
Junior Jazmine Stubblefield tied her career high with seven assists against the Hurricanes.
Junior Morgan Smith grabbed a career best seven rebounds in her third game of the season.
