HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bobcats started off the game with an 8-0 run that put the Falcons behind early in the 1st period.  Ashley Dunstan got the Falcons going with 3-pointer that cut the Bobcats lead down to five.  After a pair of free throws by the Bobcats pushed their lead back to seven points, Morgan Smith drained a 3-pointer to pull the Falcons within four points of the lead.  The Falcons closed out the period on a 6-0 run to lead the Bobcats 12-11.

The Falcons continued to use the momentum from the end of the 1st period and went on a 7-0 run to jump out to a 19-11 lead to begin the 2nd period.  After going up 23-16 on the Bobcats, the Falcons went cold from the field.  The Falcons went scoreless for four minutes and the Bobcats took advantage and closed in on the lead. The Flacons were able to hold of the Bobcats and entered halftime with a 26-23 advantage.

Both teams came out in the third period and hit a couple early shots but the Bobcats were able to even up the score at 30-30 at the 7:58 mark.  The game went back and forth and the Bobcats eventually took a 41-40 lead with 1:12 left in the period.  The Bobcats ended the third period with a 44-43 lead over the Falcons.

The fourth period started with a 5-0 run by the Bobcats but the Falcons were quick to cut into the lead as they kept the game within four points for the majority of the period.  With 2:31 left to play in the game the Falcons tied it up at 54-54 with a Jacquelyn Thompson 3-pointer.  As the game began to draw to a close the Falcons found themselves down two points in the final minute.  As the Falcons were attacking to try and knot the game up one more time Thompson was called for an offensive foul with 38 seconds left.  After a quick foul by the Falcons the Bobcats went 1-of-2 from the line to lead by three points.  The Falcons were able to close within two points of the lead but that was the closest they got as the Bobcats sealed the victory from the line.

Smith led the team with 15 points and also had 8 rebounds.

As a team the Falcons shot 37 percent from the field and went 53 percent from the free throw line.

The Falcons will finish off their road trip with a matchup on Saturday January 9 against UNC Pembroke.  That game will tip-off at 1:30pm EST.
