HOW IT HAPPENED

Lander stormed back after dropping two of the first three sets as the Bearcats rallied for a 3-2 win over Montevallo in a Peach Belt Conference match.

Lander raced out to an early lead in a 25-14 win over the Falcons in the opening set. The Bearcats went on a 14-4 run midway through the frame to coast to the victory in the first set.

The Falcons responded with a 25-22 win in the second set to tie the match at 1-1. Lander took a 18-13 lead following a kill by Halle Dotson before Montevallo ended the frame with an impressive 12-4 run to clinch the win. A pair of kills by freshman Brioni Dixon and sophomore Brie Blume helped the Falcons close out the victory.

Montevallo captured another 25-22 win in the third set to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Falcons took advantage of a series of attack errors by the Bearcats early in the frame to jump out to a 10-6 lead. Lander managed to take a 21-19 lead late in the set before the Falcons closed out the frame with a 5-1 run. Seniors Hannah Christie and Chandler Cooper provided a pair of kills late in the set to help clinch the win.

Lander rallied to take the final two sets to clinch the 3-2 victory in five sets.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 11-4 lead in the fourth set before holding off a late run by the Falcons to clinch a 25-21 win in the frame.

Lander opened the fifth set with a 5-2 run to get early momentum on its way to a 15-11 win in the fifth and final set.

STAT OF THE MATCH

Lander recorded 11 blocks in the match while the Falcons managed just 6.5 blocks against the Bearcats.
