HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons exacted revenge after dropping both meetings against Tuskegee a year ago with a 73-64 win over the Golden Tigers at Trustmark Arena.
Tuskegee raced out to a 9-4 lead in the opening minutes of the game following a layup by James Eads with 16:42 remaining in the first half.
Montevallo took its largest lead in the first half on a layup by senior Javonte Douglas with 11:19 left in the half, which gave the Falcons a 14-11 advantage.
A 3-pointer by Eads with 6:21 left in the half gave the Golden Tigers a 24-23 lead before Tuskegee extended it to 34-29 heading into the locker room at halftime.
A layup by Travis Flagg gave Tuskegee its first double-digit lead in the game with 17:09 remaining in the second half, which put the Golden Tigers up 45-34.
Tuskegee tried to hold off the Falcons down the stretch, but a thunderous dunk by junior Jamaar Taylor with 2:58 remaining in the game brought enough energy into the gym for Montevallo to complete the comeback.
A steal by junior Kevin Kelly and his dish to sophomore Tony Bagtas for a fastbreak layup with 1:25 remaining gave the Falcons a 65-64 lead and put Montevallo on top for good. The Falcons ended the game on a 12-0 run in the final 2:09.
STAT OF THE GAME
Senior Javonte Douglas recorded his first double-double of the season and finished just two blocked shots shy of a triple-double. Douglas finished with a team-high 22 points and amassed 14 rebounds while registering eight blocked shots.
