HOW IT HAPPENED

Montevallo outlasted visiting LeMoyne-Owen in scintillating fashion in a 82-77 double-overtime victory in the non-conference contest.

Senior Morgan Smith provided the theatrics for the Falcons with a 3-pointer at the buzzer in the first overtime to send the game into double overtime. Smith's buzzer-beating 3-pointer followed a game-tying 3-pointer by the Magicians' Teresa Mays at the buzzer in regulation to force the game into overtime.

The two overtime periods came after a back-and-forth affair in regulation.

LeMoyne-Owen led by as many as seven points in the first period before settling for a 15-11 lead at the end of the frame.

Montevallo outscored the Magicians 17-8 in the second period and carried a 28-23 lead into the locker room at halftime following a pair of free throws by Smith with 1:28 remaining in the frame.

The Magicians outscored the Falcons 19-13 in the third period and managed to take a 42-41 lead following a jumper by Champale Grays with 44 seconds left in the period.

A 3-pointer by junior Haven Albright tied the contest at 54-54 with 1:57 remaining in regulation before layups by seniors Jazmine Stubblefield and Rayvon Christian, followed by a pair of free throws by Smith with five seconds left, gave the Falcons a 60-57 advantage.

Mays then drained a 3-pointer to send the game into the first overtime period.

A pair of free throws by Mays with five seconds remaining in the first overtime gave the Magicians a 70-67 lead, their largest in the period, before Smith banked in a 3-pointer from the wing at the buzzer to extend the game.

The Falcons opened the second overtime with a 7-0 run, capped with a free throw by Smith, and held on down the stretch for the dramatic victory.

STAT OF THE GAME

Senior Morgan Smith scored a career-high 30 points, including 8-of-12 shooting from the charity stripe, and grabbed a team-best 14 rebounds in the game as she posted her second double-double of the season.
