HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons got down early as the Cougars opened the game on a 6-0 run. Montevallo got on the board with 4:57 left to play in the first period to trail Columbus 6-2. The Falcons and the Cougars went back and forth in the first period with Columbus leading by as many as eight points in the first period. Montevallo finished the first period trailing the Cougars 15-10.
In the second period both teams continued to match the other offensively as the Cougars slowly started to inch further ahead of the Falcons. The Cougars led by as many as 12 points in the period before the Falcons chipped away to head into the break only down seven points, 34-27.
A nine point run to begin the third period gave the Cougars a 16 point lead as the Falcons trailed 43-27. Jacquelyn Thompson scored her 1,000th career point on a layup with 7:50 remaining in the second period, which started a run for the Falcons.
Montevallo kept fighting as they got to within 12 points of the lead before Columbus started to pull away. Falcons trailed by as many as 25 points late in the period.
In the fourth period the Falcons cut the lead to 17 points but were unable to get any closer as the Cougars sealed the 76-57 victory over the Falcons.
STAT OF THE DAY
Ashley Dunstan led the Falcons with 11 points in today's game. Dunstan shot 50 percent from the field and beyond the three point arc. She also had three blocks and a steal.

The Falcons will return home for their final home game of the season on Feb. 20th against Flagler. The Falcons will honor five seniors following the game.
