HOW IT HAPPENED

Augusta scored four runs over the first three innings and held on down the stretch to secure a 11-7 win over the Falcons to clinch the series in Peach Belt Conference play at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

The Jaguars took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Clint Hardy led off with an infield single and scored later in the frame on a RBI double down the left-field line by Drew Taylor.

Augusta pushed its lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning after Jim Wagner led off the frame with a double to left field and scored on a RBI groundout by Cole Janousek.

The Jaguars took a 4-0 lead after plating two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Hardy reached on an infield single to lead off the bottom of the third inning and scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Connor Gilbert. Nick Rau, who also reached on an infield single, scored on a RBI infield single by Wagner.

Augusta took a 6-0 lead after scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Taylor, who reached on a walk, scored on a RBI single by Cole Thompson. Gilbert, who also reached on a walk, scored on a RBI single by Janousek.

Montevallo plated its first run in the top of the sixth inning to trim the Jaguars' lead to 6-1. Senior Jeremy Hyde led off with a single to left field before scoring later in the frame on a throwing error by the Jaguars.

The Jaguars scored four more runs in the bottom half of the frame, which included RBI doubles by both  Gilbert and Wagner.

The Falcons scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning to trim the deficit to 10-5. Hyde, who reached on an error by the Jaguars, scored later in the frame on a RBI single to center field by senior Taylor Walker. Walker scored later in the frame on a wild pitch. Junior Daniel Pardo, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored on a RBI groundout by senior Thomas Bradey. Sophomore Chad Wagner, who reached on a walk, scored the final run in the inning on an error by Augusta.

Blue Sanderson, who was hit by a pitch, scored the Jaguars' final run in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Montevallo plated its final two runs in the top of the ninth inning. Junior Matthew Furuto, who led off with a single to right field, scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Pardo. Hyde, who reached on a fielder's choice in the frame, scored on an error by the Jaguars.

STAT OF THE GAME

The two teams combined for eight errors in the game, with Augusta committing six of the errors.

BEYOND THE NUMBERS

Senior Taylor Walker extended his hitting streak to 14 games to open the 2016 season. Walker finished 1-for-4 at the plate and scored one run.

UP NEXT

The Falcons will return to action Sunday, Feb. 28 in the final game of the series against Augusta University at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, Georgia. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. Eastern/11 a.m. Central.
