HOW IT HAPPENED
- Montevallo took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when junior Dane Hutcheon led off with a double to left-center field before scoring on a RBI groundout by senior Taylor Walker.
- Columbus State scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, capped with a three-run homer by Jackson Oliver, to take a 5-1 lead in the game.
- The Cougars extended their lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning with a pair of solo home runs by Oliver and Justin Evans.
- Senior Thomas Bradey homered in the top of the seventh inning to trim the Cougars' lead to 7-2.
- Columbus State took a 8-2 lead following a solo homer by Blake Edwards in the bottom of the seventh inning.
- The Falcons cut the Columbus State lead to 8-3 in the top of the eighth inning when senior pinch hitter Michael Simmons led off with a single and scored on a RBI single by Walker.
