HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Montevallo took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning on a RBI double by senior Chase Bryant and a RBI single by junior Dane Hutcheon.
  • Senior Thomas Bradey led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a triple to right-center field and scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by freshman Tyler Krabbe to extend the Falcons' lead to 3-0.
  • The Falcons pushed their lead to 6-0 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, which included a RBI double by Bradey, a RBI single by junior Matthew Furuto and a RBI groundout by Bryant.
  • Montevallo capped its scoring with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to extend its lead to 9-0 on a RBI sacrifice fly by Hutcheon, a bases-loaded walk issued to senior Taylor Walker and an error by the Mountain Lions that allowed Bryant to score.
  • Young Harris scored its lone run in the top of the ninth inning on a RBI single by Jimmy Pinakidis.
  • Senior Cody Hughes (3-2) earned the win on the mound after allowing just two hits with five strikeouts and two walks in six scoreless innings.
  • Senior Landon Smith pitched two scoreless frames in relief while allowing just one walk.
  • Senior Taylor Burr recorded the final two outs while allowing a pair of hits and registering one strikeout.

STAT OF THE DAY

Five senior starters in the Montevallo lineup combined for eight of the Falcons' 14 hits in the victory on Senior Day.

BEYOND THE NUMBERS

Senior Chase Bryant recorded a season high two hits as he finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and drove in a pair of runs.

Senior Thomas Bradey tied his season high with three hits and finished a home run shy of hitting for the cycle as he went 3-for-4 with a pair of extra-base hits, drove in one run and scored two runs.

Eight of the Falcons' nine seniors made an appearance in the victory on Senior Day. Senior Aron McRee started the first game of the series on Friday night.

Montevallo inched one game closer to securing its spot in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.

The Falcons will look to complete a sweep of the Mountain Lions in the final game of the series Sunday, April 17 at Kermit A. Johnson Field. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
