HOW IT HAPPENED
Montevallo saw three players combine for 65 points in a 84-71 win over visiting Young Harris College in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
Young Harris got off to a strong start, scoring 26 points in the paint in the opening half. The conference's best-shooting team was kept in check for the remainder of the game.
CJ Wilson, who averages 19.9 per game and is the conference's third-leading scorer, only had 14 points on the day and was held to four points in the first half.
Young Harris raced out to a 17-8 lead in the first eight minutes of the game. A defensive adjustment helped the Falcons slow down the Mountain Lions enough to finish the half with a 34-15 run, carving out a 42-32 lead at the break.
The Falcons continued to dominate in the final 20 minutes and led by as many as 22 in the second half following a layup by sophomore Tighe Oberg with 6:44 remaining in the contest, which gave Montevallo a 76-54 advantage.
The Mountain Lions staged a late run, but the lead was significant enough for the Falcons to hold on to claim a sixth conference win.
Seniors Jamaar Taylor and Kevin Kelly paced the Falcons with 20 points each. Senior Tazz Marbury was a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc and added 15 points.
STAT OF THE GAME
The Falcons shot a season-best 61 percent from the field, including a season-high 56 percent from beyond the arc.
