HOW IT HAPPENED
After a slow start by both teams to open the game, the Warhawks scored the game's first points off a 3-pointer from Shanna Strain with 7:50 left to play in the opening period. In the first period, the Falcons trailed by as much as 18 points.Â
Montevallo was outscored 27-14 in the opening period.
The Falcon's offense started to find its groove in the second period and cut the Warhawks lead to six points at halftime. Montevallo went on a 6-0 run to end the second period.
Montevallo was led by Ashley Dunstan in the game's opening half and scored nine points and grabbed two rebounds.Â
Jazmine Stubblefield led the team on the boards, grabbing four defensive rebounds in the first half.
The Falcons continued to battle back in the third period and eventually tied the game up at 48-48 with 6:01 left in the period. A jump shot from Morgan Smith capped off a 7-0 run to draw the Falcons even with the Warhawks.
Montevallo took the lead moments later off a pair of made free throws from Albanellys Perez. The Falcons 50-48 lead in the third period was their only lead of the game. The Warhawks reclaimed the lead with 2:56 remaining in the period and never lost it again.
The third period ended with the Warhawks leading the Falcons 61-50.
The Falcons continued to battle in the fourth period but were unable to overcome the Warhawks attack as Auburn-Montgomery came away with the 82-70 victory
STAT OF THE GAME
Montevallo had four players score in double figures in tonight's loss. Ashley Dunstan recorded her first double-figure scoring game of the season by tallying 14 points in 36 minutes. RayVon Christian, Stubblefield, and Perez all ended the night scoring in double figures.
