HOW IT HAPPENED
-Montevallo competed from the opening tip with the Patriots in the first period of tonight's game. The Patriots outscored the Falcons in the opening period 19-15 and led Montevallo by as many as six points.
-In the second period, the Falcon's defense held the Patriots to 10 total points, while their offense came alive and netted 26 points. Montevallo entered halftime with a 41-29 point lead, their largest halftime lead this season. Ashley Dunstan led the Falcons with 16 points in the first half and was 6-of-9 shooting from the field.Â
-In the third period, Montevallo's offense became stagnant and only managed to put six points on the board as they watched their 12-point halftime lead dwindle as the Patriots reclaimed a two-point lead at the end of the period.
-In the final period of play, the Falcons and the Patriots continued the scrappy play. Montevallo was able to take a five-point lead late in the period. The Falcons held off a surging Patriot's offense until there was 1:38 remaining in the period when Francis Marion took a two-point lead. Montevallo was unable to reclaim the lead as Francis Marion hit their free throws down the stretch to seal the 68-61 victory.
-Jazmine Stubblefield led the Falcons offensively in the second half with 5 points while Morgan Smith led the team defensively and grabbed six rebounds.
STAT OF THE GAME
Ashley Dunstan scored in double figures for the second time this season with a team-high 18 points in 32 minutes. Morgan Smith also recorded her third double-double of the year with a 13 point and 10 rebound performance.
