HOOVER, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team dropped its first match in the NCAA Division II South Region Crossover pitting the Gulf South Conference against the Sunshine State Conference following a 3-1 setback Oct. 13 to Florida Tech at the Finley Center.
Freshman Amanda Nugent led the Falcons as she posted the second double-double of her collegiate career with 14 kills and 13 digs against the Panthers.
Junior Brie Blume also registered the fourth double-double of her collegiate career with 11 kills and a career-high 23 digs. Senior Kristy Bohan contributed 10 kills.
Sophomore Michaela Henderson posted a team-high 29 digs, while freshman Liz Tisch contributed a team-best 25 assists.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Oct. 14 with a pair of matches in the South Region Crossover. Montevallo will face Embry-Riddle University at 10 a.m. before wrapping up the event with a 4:45 p.m. match against Nova Southeastern University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Florida Tech raced out to a 13-7 lead in the opening frame before a 3-0 run by the Falcons capped with a kill by freshman Amanda Nugent, but the Panthers pulled away down the stretch for a 25-19 win in the frame.
- The Falcons started off the second set with an impressive 7-2 run fueled with a pair of kills by freshman Evelina Teran before a 5-0 run by the Panthers down the stretch helped Florida Tech overcome a late deficit and secure a 25-23 win in the frame.
- Montevallo opened the third set with a 5-1 run, capped with a service ace by freshman Amanda Nugent, and used another 6-0 run midway through the frame to put the Panthers away in a 25-23 win in the frame.
- Florida Tech broke open an evenly matched fourth set with a 5-0 run midway through the frame and held off a late charge by the Falcons in a 25-23 victory in the set to clinch the match.
