Falcons split pair of matches on final day of South Region Crossover

HOOVER, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team split a pair of matches against Embry Riddle University and Nova Southeastern University on the final day of the NCAA Division II South Region Crossover pitting the Gulf South Conference against the Sunshine State Conference.

The Falcons defeated Nova Southeastern University 3-1 in the final match of the event after falling to Embry Riddle University 3-1 in its first match of the day.

Senior Kristy Bohan and freshman Amanda Nugent led Montevallo (8-10) with 12 kills each in the victory over Nova Southeastern. Freshman Claudia Chisolm added 10 kills in the win.

Sophomore Michaela Henderson led the Falcons with 25 digs. Freshman Liz Tisch recorded a team-high 28 assists, while sophomore Harley Masoner contributed 17 assists.

Bohan led the Falcons with 12 kills in the 3-1 setback against Embry Riddle, while freshman Evelina Teran contributed 11 kills.

Henderson posted a team-high 30 digs, while junior Brie Blume registered 21 digs. Tisch finished with a team-best 32 assists.

The Falcons will return to action Tuesday, Oct. 17 with a home match against North Alabama in Gulf South Conference action. First serve is set for 7 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Montevallo opened the match with a 25-20 win in the first set due in part to a commanding 6-0 run midway through the frame, with senior Kristy Bohan, junior Shannon Dudley and freshman Evelina Teran contributing kills during the stretch.
  • Nova Southeastern held off a late charge by the Falcons for a 25-20 win in the second set.
  • The Falcons closed out the 3-1 victory in the match with a 25-17 win in the third set and a 25-23 victory in the fourth set after getting off to great starts in the frames with a 7-0 run to start the third set and a 4-0 run to begin the final set.
