MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo volleyball team hosted its annual Dig Lavender match to support Calera Middle School student Thomas Bush and came away with a 3-1 win over in-state rival Auburn-Montgomery in a Gulf South Conference match Oct. 21 at Trustmark Arena.
The Falcons (10-11 overall, 5-6 in Gulf South Conference) defeated the Warhawks (8-13 overall, 1-9 in Gulf South Conference) 3-1 after surrendering the opening set to the visitors.
Freshman
Evelina Teran has a game-high 14 kills. Senior
Kristy Bohan added 12 kills and freshman
Amanda Nugent registered 11 kills to go along with a game-high 17 digs.
After losing the opening set, Montevallo never looked back and dominated the next three sets to cruise to a 3-1 victory.
Montevallo hit an impressive .317 and saw freshman
Liz Tisch record a career-high 45 assists. She provided assists to eight different players who recorded kills. Freshman
Amanda Nugent had a team-high four service aces, and junior
Brie Blume's three service aces took her to 31 on the year.
The Falcons fell to Spring Hill 3-2 in a five-set match in the nightcap of the tri-match. Senior
Kristy Bohan led the Falcons with a season-high 20 kills, while freshman
Liz Tisch eclipsed her career-best earlier in the day with 51 assists. Freshman
Amanda Nugent posted the sixth double-double of her collegiate career with 15 kills and 20 digs.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Oct. 28 with a pair of matches on the road in Carrollton, Georgia. Montevallo will face West Georgia in a Gulf South Conference match and Augusta University in a neutral site match.

GAME NOTES
- Freshman setter Liz Tisch had a career-high 45 assists in the four-set win.
- Three Falcons players had double digit kills during the game. Evelina Teran's 14 kills led all players, Kristy Bohan supplied 12 of her own, and Amanda Nugent had 11 kills to go along with a game-high 17 digs. Nugent had a career high four service aces. The three hitters had more kills in the game than the entirety of the AUM team.
- Montevallo hit .317 on the game, well above their .198 average. Teran hit .480, Bohan .375 and Nugent hit an impressive .500.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Montevallo started slowly and AUM's Brianna Garvin and Kheala Roberts helped the Warhawks to a 19-11 lead. A pair of kills from Kristy Bohan cut into the deficit but AUM took the first set 25-17.
- Montevallo looked a better team in the second set and were tied 12-12 before three consecutive points carved out a slender lead. Kills from Claudia Chisolm and Amanda Nugent helped the Falcons surge to a 20-16 advantage. Two kills from Kheala Roberts helped AUM stay in the set, but Bohan provided the decisive kill in the 25-20 second set victory.
- Three kills by Evelina Teran and a pair from Amanda Nugent and Brioni Dixon helped the Falcons to a 10-1 lead in a dominant third set performance. After scoring the first five points of the set, the Falcons won the last five points to cap off a 25-10 third set.
- Brie Blume started the fourth set with a service ace as the Falcons raced to a 10-4 lead. A pair of kills by Amanda Nugent stretched the advantage to 13-5. Two kills by Natalie Twyford were followed by Amanda Nugent's set winning kill for a 25-14 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Spring Hill opened the match with a 25-23 win in the first set.
- The Falcons ended the second set with a 5-0 run, fueled with kills by junior Brioni Dixon and freshman Amanda Nugent, to secure a 25-20 win in the frame.
- The Badgers held off the Falcons for another 25-23 win in the third set to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
- Montevallo tied the set at 2-2 with a 25-14 win in the fourth set after using a 10-2 run midway through the frame to gain momentum and ending the set with a 6-0 run capped with a kill by Nugent.
- The Falcons jumped out to a 5-3 lead early in the fifth and final set following a kill by senior Kristy Bohan, but the Badgers closed the frame with a 12-6 run to clinch the match with a 15-11 win in the set.
