Falcons Draw with Lady Statesmen in GSC Conference Play

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's soccer team rallied from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with the Delta State Lady Statesmen in Sunday's match.

The Falcons surrendered an early goal to the Lady Statesmen in the 12' of play.  Delta State was awarded a penalty kick and Lakyn Cryder found goal to give the Statesmen a 1-0 lead over the Falcons.

In the second half, Delta State looked to have put the game away with another goal to take a 2-0 lead in the 68'.

However, the Falcons continued to fight and were rewarded in the 80' when Taylor Gonzales scored her third goal of the season.

In the final seconds of the match, Montevallo knotted the game at 2-2 off the foot of Kira Bochard to send the game into overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED

12' | Delta State's Lakyn Cryder successfully converted a penalty kick for the games first goal.

68' | Traci Monroe was assisted by Shannon Thomas to give the Lady Statesmen a 2-0 lead.

80' | Taylor Gonzales got the Falcons on the board with her third goal of the season.

90' | Kira Bochard tied the game at 2-2 in the final seconds of the game.  Tylor ring assisted on the play.

GAME NOTES
  • Today's tie was the second of the season for the Falcons.  The other draw this season came on the road at Christian Brothers.
  • Taylor Gonzales led the team with six shots in the game and had two of them on frame. 
  • Three Falcons – Kira Bochard, Hampton Brinson, and Sarah Daniels – all had three shots in today's game.  Bochard was the only one of the three to place a shot on goal – a goal that tied the game.
  • Montevallo outshot Delta State 24-14 and both teams only managed six shots on goal each.  Both teams recorded four saves in today's match.
