BIRMINGHAM, Ala -- The University of Montevallo women's basketball team faced the UAB Blazers in an exhibition game to start the 2017-18 basketball season. The Blazers defeated the Falcons 113-20 at Bartow Arena.
The Falcons were outmatched for the entire game and after scoring their first four points they went on a scoring drought. Even though Montevallo was able to get to the basket they were unlucky and could not get the ball to fall.
At the half, the Falcons trailed the Blazers 60-4.
In the second half, the Falcons finally got a bucket to fall and broke a 63-point run when
Kiya Sain nailed a layup. Sain's basket and a pair of free throws from Alba Perez gave Montevallo eight points in the game.
Montevallo caught a spark in the fourth period and scored eight points to close out the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

st Period | Montevallo was outscored 36-4 in the opening period as the Blazers earned an early cushion.

nd Period | Montevallo was held scoreless in the period as UAB placed 24 more points on the scoreboard. Montevallo trailed UAB 60-4 at halftime.

rd Period | UAB outscored the Falcons 25-8 in the period to go ahead 85-12.

th Period | The Falcons were outshot 28-8 in the final period as UAB closed out the game with a 113-20 victory.
GAME NOTES
- Today's point total of 20 points is the fewest points scored by the Falcons in a game. The previous low was set in 2002 against Central Arkansas.
- Montevallo was also held to a program low for points in a half when they scored just four points in the first half of tonight's game. The previous low was against Central Arkansas in 2002 when the Falcons scored just 10 points in the first half.
- Alba Perez led the Falcons with nine total points in today's game. Perez was 3-of-7 from the field and also went 3-of-4 from the free throw line.
- Freshman Nautika Philpot was 2-of-7 from the field in tonight's game and had four points.
- The leading rebounder for the Falcons was Cheyenne Cunningham who grabbed five boards for the Falcons.
