MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team wrapped up preparation for Gulf South Conference play Nov. 27 with an emphatic 97-61 win over the University of the Virgin Islands at Trustmark Arena.
Montevallo scored the opening 12 points and raced out to a lead that they never surrendered. Senior Jamaar Taylor had a massive first half and the team shot 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. They led by 23 points at the break over the visitors.
The Buccaneers' Justin Syphoe had a good second half after a quiet opening 20 minutes and finished with 13 points, but it was another guard who stole the show in the second.
Lawson State Community College transfer Zach Jackson recorded a double-double thanks in part to a dominant second half. The junior finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds and shot 11 for 12 from the floor, which tied the Falcons' program record for shooting percentage in a single game.
Montevallo also outscored Virgin Islands 50-18 in the paint.
