GAME NOTES

  •  UAH committed more turnovers despite picking up the road win. The Chargers committed 21 turnovers compared to just 15 for the Falcons.
  • The rebounding numbers were similar, with the Chargers narrowly outrebounding the Falcons by a count of 61 to 58.
  • Montevallo shot above average from the floor at 38 percent, but below average from beyond the arc with just a 27 percent 3-point shooting game. The Chargers shot 46 percent field goals and 38 percent from long range.
  • The Falcons had two players in double digits. Nautika Philpot had a career-high 23 points to go along with a game-high five steals. D'Miyah Foster added 17 points to go along with a team-high 7 rebounds.
  • The Falcons had better defensive numbers than the Chargers. Montevallo had 12 steals compared to UAH's five total. They also had the only blocked shot of the game, courtesy of Kiya Sain.

Montevallo plays their second Gulf South Conference game in a week on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. CT at Trustmark Arena. The Falcons welcome the Lions of North Alabama in the only season the two will be conference opponents.

RECAP

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team fell to Alabama-Huntsville in a close contest on their return to the Gulf South Conference.

The Falcons trailed by as many as 12 points late in the opening period of play but closed out the period with a 7-2 run.  Nautika Philpot provided a spark off the bench for the Falcons and went 3-of-4 from the field and to rack up seven points in the period.

The second period of play was a more tightly contested matchup as the Falcons were only outscored 14-13 in the period.  D'Miyah Foster led the charge for Montevallo in the period with seven points and five rebounds.  Montevallo entered halftime down 35-27.

In the second half, the Falcons outscored the Chargers in each period.  Montevallo pulled the game to within two points on multiple occasions behind the play of both Philpot and Foster.  Philpot shot 4-of-10 from the field to finish the half with 12 points. 

Alabama-Huntsville relied on a team effort from their experienced guards and had three players in double figures.

Montevallo frustrated the Chargers in the second half and forced them into 15 second-half turnovers.

The Falcons cut the Chargers lead to two points late in the fourth period but a pair of free throws from Aryn Sanders sealed the 61-58 victory for Alabama-Huntsville.
