Falcons Battle Bulldogs in Final Exhibition Game

GAME NOTES
  • The Falcons shot a game-high 46 percent from the field in the third period to register their highest shooting percentage of the game.
  • Montevallo's leading scorer was Kassidy Bonebrake who scored 11 points on the night.  Bonebrake was 3-of-4 from the field and went 1-of-3 from behind the three-point line.  Bonebrake took the most free throws for the Falcons and went 4-of-6.
  • Kiya Sain led the Falcons in rebounds with six boards in today's game.  Sain had three offensive and three defensive rebounds. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alba Perez scored the Falcons first bucket of the game with 8:13 left in the first period.  Montevallo totaled 12 points in the first period with six players scoring for the Falcons.  Kassidy Bonebrake led the Falcons with four points in the period.  Perez, D'Miyah Foster, and Kourtnie Smith each registered two points in the period.
  • In the second period, the Falcons struggled from the field and only shot eight percent.  Montevallo played aggressively in the paint and went to the free throw line 12 times in the first half and made seven of them.  The Falcons shot 58 percent from the free throw line in the half.
  • The Falcons came out of the half and looked like a different team and outscored Samford 15-13 in the third period.  Montevallo shot 46 percent from the field in the period going 6-of-13 from the field. The Falcons also got to the line twice and were 100 percent from the charity stripe.
  • The Falcons closed out the final period with 13 points.  Montevallo finished the game with a 26 percent shooting percentage and went 13-of-22 from the free throw line.

After a pair of exhibition games, the Falcons officially begin the regular season with the GSC/SIAC Crossover on November 11-12.  The Falcons open the crossover on Saturday, November 11th with a matchup against Miles College at 3:30 pm.

RECAP

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team played Samford University in their final exhibition game before the start of the regular season.  The Bulldogs came away with a 94-44 victory over the Falcons.

Montevallo kept the game close for the majority of the first period but trailed the Bulldogs by 12 points when the period came to an end.  Alba Perez scored the Falcons' first basket at the 8:13 mark in the first period.  Montevallo trailed by seven points before cutting the Bulldogs lead back down to two points with 3:42 remaining in the period.  Samford outscored Montevallo 18-5 in the final three minutes of the period to lead the Falcons 24-12.

In the second period of play, the Falcons offense was stifled and only managed to score four points and went 1-of-12 from the field.  Samford led the Falcons 53-16 at halftime.

Montevallo used the third period to try and make up ground and outscored the Bulldogs 15-13.  The Falcons held Samford scoreless for a four-minute span in the period.  Montevallo shot 46 percent in the period and was 2-of-2 from the free throw line. 

The Bulldogs closed out the game by outscoring the Falcons 28-13 in the final period.  Samford came away with a 94-44 victory.
