GAME NOTES

  • Montevallo had three players score in double figures tonight.  Jomekia Morine led the team with 26 points.  Kassidy Bonebrake had 22 points and Kia Sain had 14 points in tonight's game.
  • The leading scorer in tonight's game was Halee Nieman who scored 40 points for the Argonauts.
  • West Florida controlled the paint during the game, scoring 42 points and only allowing Montevallo to score 18 points.
  • West Florida outscored the Falcons in points in the paint 25-7.
  • Montevallo's bench played a factor in tonight's game as they added an additional 35 points.

RECAP

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team was defeated by West Florida 98-86 in conference play.

Montevallo is now 2-10 overall this season and is 0-4 in conference play.

In the opening half of play, the Falcons got behind the Argonauts, who jumped out to a 10 point advantage in the first period and outscored Montevallo 22-12.  In the second period, the Falcons found their offensive rhythm and outshot the Argonauts 20-18 to enter halftime trailing by eight points.

Montevallo's first half of play was fueled by the shooting of Kassidy Bonebrake.  Bonebrake was 3-of-4 from long range in the first half and led the team with nine points.  As a team, the Falcons shot 46 percent from three-point range.

In the second half, West Florida pushed their lead to as many as 25 points in the third period.  West Florida outscored the Falcons 30-14 in the third period of play. 

Montevallo's offense came alive in the final period and scored 40 points, their highest in a period this season, and outscored West Florida 40-28.  Montevallo's late-game surge was not enough as West Florida held on for a 98-86 victory.

Jomekia Morine scored 18 second-half points to be the team's leading scorer with 26 points. 

Bonebrake and Kiya Sain both scored in double figures for the Falcons with Bonebrake netting 22 points and Sain adding 14 points.

Alba Perez and Morine led Montevallo in rebounds with seven each.  Perez grabbed five offensive boards in today's game.
