HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons and the Trojans opened their weekend series with a game full of fireworks that took all nine innings to decide the winner.

The Trojans didn't take long to get on the board in today's game.  In the second inning, Trevecca's Clay Staton hit a 2 RBI homerun in the second to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead.

Montevallo got a run back in the bottom of the inning thanks to a balk on the pitcher which brought Caleb Ledbetter home to pull the Falcons to within one run of the lead.

The Trojans pushed the lead to two runs (3-1) after another home run, this time in the top of the third inning.

In the fifth inning, it looked like the Trojans would start to pull away from the Falcons.  Carter Wiseman hit a deep ball to left field that looked to be on its way out of the park.  Left fielder Matthew Furuto took a nice read on the ball and made a play at the wall to rob the Trojans of their third home run of the game.  Furuto then made a heads-up play to get the ball to second to get the final out of the inning as Griffin Ganick tried to make his way back to tag up at second base.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Furuto played the role of hero once again.  While facing a bases-loaded situation with one out, Furuto homered to left field to clear the bases and give the Falcons a 5-3 lead.

Trevecca got a run back in the top of the sixth inning to pull within one run of the lead.

After two scoreless frames, the Trojans tied the game up in the ninth at 5-5.  Cas Silber entered the game in relief and walked the first three batters he faced.  Silber then proceeded to strike out the next two batters. After walking in the tying run, Silber struck out the next batter to send the game into the final three outs all tied up.

Collin Dupree led off the inning with a base hit into right field and then advanced to second on a passed ball.  Daniel Pardo hit a walk-off double down the right field line to bring Dupree home and score the winning run.

Silber (1-0) earned the win in today's game, his first of the season.

STAT OF THE GAME

Furuto went 1-of-3 from the plate today, walked once, and had four RBI thanks to his grand slam in the fifth inning.
