HOW IT HAPPENED
The Falcons completed the series sweep over the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans with a pair of wins in a doubleheader on the final day of the series.
Game 1
The Falcons let the Trojans get out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. Montevallo got a run back thanks to a solo homerun by Daniel Pardo in the bottom of the inning to make it a 2-1 game.
Montevallo broke the game open in the third inning, scoring seven runs to take an 8-3 lead. The big play of the inning came from Mark Castellucci, who hit a three-run home run to plate Caleb Ledbetter and Sebastian Samuels.
After giving up a run in the fourth inning and a pair of runs in the fifth inning that allowed the Trojans to make it an 8-6 game, the Falcons plated four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Ryan Brooks hit a three-run home run to make it 12-6.
After giving up a solo homerun in the top of the ninth to make it a 12-7 game, freshman pitcher Anthony Porter retired the side to earn the save and seal the Falcon victory.
Game 2
The Falcons' bats stayed red hot in the second game of the doubleheader, scoring runs in the first five frames. Montevallo plated three runs in the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead over the Trojans.
Montevallo scored two runs in each of the next three innings to make it a 9-2 game.
After adding three more runs to their lead in the fifth inning to take a 12-2 lead over the Trojans, the Falcons gave back three runs in the top of the sixth inning.Â
Montevallo and Trevecca Nazarene traded two-run innings late in the game as the Falcons cruised to a 14-7 victory.
STAT OF THE DAY
The stat of the day came in the first game of the doubleheader. Both Brooks and Castellucci recorded three RBI home runs to lift the Falcons to victory.
Drew Mullinax and Kale Latorre both earned wins in today's games.
UP NEXT
The Falcons return to action against Mississippi College on February 15th at home with the first pitch scheduled for 2:00 pm.
