HOW IT HAPPENED

Montevallo defeated Shorter 6-3 before falling to North Alabama 11-5 on the second day of the Falcon Frenzy at Orr Park.

The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning against Shorter on a pair of RBI doubles by junior Kaitlynn Thomson and freshman Holly LaForce.

Shorter plated three runs to take a 3-2 lead before a two-run single to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning by sophomore Kendra Buckley gave the Falcons a one-run lead.

Freshman Mariel Bertossi blasted a two-run homer, her third of the season, over the wall in left field to plate the Falcons' final two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Sophomore Abbey Pratt got the win in the circle and senior Jocelyn Rivera registered the save.

North Alabama scored four runs in the top of the first inning in the nightcap to give the Lions an early 4-0 lead over the Falcons.

Montevallo trimmed the deficit to 5-4 on a three-run blast to right field by junior Kelsey Vining and a solo shot by sophomore Marisa Sosa in the same spot in the bottom of the second inning.

The Lions plated six more runs before Vining scored the Falcons' final run on a North Alabama error in the bottom of the fourth inning.

STAT OF THE DAY

The Falcons finished with three home runs combined in the doubleheader, led by freshman Mariel Bertossi, who leads Montevallo with three homers on the season.

UP NEXT

The Falcons will face future Gulf South Conference foes Delta State University and the University of West Alabama on the final day of the Falcon Frenzy event Sunday, Feb. 12. First pitch in the first game of the day against Delta State is set for 1:30 p.m. at Orr Park.
