HOW IT HAPPENED
Montevallo and Lander faced off in the PBC opener for both teams with the Falcons coming up on the short end of the game one decision.
It didn't take long for the Falcons to get on the board as they plated their first run in the bottom of the first inning. Daniel Pardo reached first base after being hit by a pitch and then was advanced to second on a hit and run by Matthew Furuto that put Furuto out at first base. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Pardo was brought home to score the game's first run on a Caleb Ledbetter single.
The Falcons' 1-0 lead lasted until the top of the fourth when the Bearcats eventually got on the board. A pair of back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth inning gave Lander a 2-1 lead.
Montevallo wasted no time taking the lead back from the Bearcats. In the bottom of the inning, the Falcons plated two more runs. Ledbetter had his second RBI single of the game that brought Furuto around from second to score. The second run of the inning that gave the Falcons a 3-2 lead was scored by Ledbetter on a RBI single from Ryan Brooks that found its way up the middle.
Carson Jones scored the go-ahead run for the Bearcats on a three RBI home run to left field in the top of the sixth inning to make it a 5-3 game. Lander scored another run in the sixth inning off another solo home run to make it 6-3.
Lander scored their final insurance run of the game on a solo homerun to left center field.
Montevallo had its chances late in the game but failed to capitalize as Lander held on to win 7-3
