HOW IT HAPPENED
Montevallo was swept in their doubleheader with Eckerd College to go 1-2 in the season-opening series.
Game 1
The Falcons scored early in the first of two games with a run in the first frame to take a 1-0 lead over the Tritons. Khari Anderson led off the inning with a single into center field and then stole second to move into scoring position. With two outs in the inning, Ledbetter hit a RBI single into centerfield to score Anderson and give the Falcons the early lead.
Montevallo added to its lead in the second inning by scoring two more runs to jump out to a 3-0 lead over the Tritons. Sebastian Samuels scored on a RBI double from Collin Dupree, and then Jacob Whiting scored on the next at-bat when Eckerd's Garrett Hiott mishandled a ground ball from Anderson.Â
Eckerd pulled to within one run of the lead in the fourth inning on a pair of runs on a double into right field.
The Tritons inflicted the most damage and scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning by plating five runners to take a 7-3 lead.
Eckerd added to their lead with another insurance run in the eighth inning to lead the Falcons 8-3.Â
Montevallo scored a run in the top of the ninth inning to cut the lead to 8-4 on a wild pitch.Â
Game 2
Montevallo and Eckerd started the second game of the doubleheader exchanging three runs in the first inning. After Daniel Pardo reached on a single up the middle, he was plated by Furuto who doubled into left field. Dom DeVille capped off the scoring in the first inning with a two run homerun to left field.Â
Eckerd came back in the bottom half of the frame to tie the game at 3-3.
The Tritons took the lead in the second and then added another run in the fourth inning to take a 5-3 lead over the Falcons.
In the eighth inning, the Falcons retook the lead after scoring six runs in the top of the inning to lead 9-5.
However, Eckerd came back and scored 10 runs in the bottom half of the inning to jump out to a 15-9 lead heading into the final inning.
Montevallo answered back with a rally of their own. The Falcons scored five runs to cut the lead to 15-14, but with two outs and the bases loaded, Pardo flew out to centerfield to end the game.
