HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons opened up their 2017 home schedule against instate opponent Tuskegee.  Montevallo cruised to an 11-3 victory over the Golden Tigers thanks to a pair of big innings in the middle of the game.

Both teams were held scoreless in the opening three frames of play.  Freshman Seth Johnson got the start on the mound for the Falcons and struck out four batters in the first three innings.

Tuskegee got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with a pair of runs that came off a double and then a wild pitch to lead the Falcons 2-0.

In the bottom of the inning, the Falcons tied the game up at 2-2 with a two-run home run by Matthew Furuto, his first of the season.

Montevallo built on their lead in the fifth inning and added four more runs to make it a 6-2 game.  Caleb Ledbetter plated the first two runs with a bases-loaded double that got through the right side.  Pardo and Dupree both crossed the plate as the Falcons took a 4-2 lead.

The Falcons scored two more runs to close out the inning.  The first happened on a walk with the bases loaded to bring in Furuto, and the second came off a RBI single by Jake Davis to bring home Ledbetter to lead 6-2.

In the sixth inning, Montevallo scored five more runs with three of them coming off a Davis triple into right field that cleared the bases and plated Sebastian Samuels, Ledbetter, and Furuto to give the Falcons an 11-2 lead.

Tuskegee got a run back in the seventh inning on a RBI single to make it an 11-3 game.
