HOW IT HAPPENED
Montevallo ended its Peach Belt Conference contest against Georgia College with an 8-0 run to survive in a 64-61 win over the visiting Bobcats at Trustmark Arena.
The Falcons opened the contest with an impressive 21-7 run, capped with a 3-pointer by senior Javonte Douglas with 8:05 remaining in the opening half.
Georgia College managed to trim the deficit to 26-20 following a layup by Desmond Mitchell-LaFlam with 4:02 remaining in the half before Montevallo ended the half on a 8-2 run to carry a 34-22 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Douglas, who finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds as he recorded his 12th double-double of the season, helped the Falcons take a commanding halftime lead after scoring 11 points in the first half.
After carrying his team in the first half, Isaac Thomas sparked a comeback by the Bobcats in the early stages of the second half. Thomas capped a 20-7 run by Georgia College to open the second half, which gave the Bobcats a 42-41 advantage with 12:25 remaining in the game.
The Bobcats led by as many as five points down the stretch following a free throw by Mitchell-LaFlam with 2:33 remaining, which gave Georgia College a 61-56 lead.
Montevallo ended the game on a 8-0 run to secure the win, with a free throw by junior Jamaar Taylor with 1:17 left giving the Falcons the lead for good.
On the final possession, Georgia College had an open look for Garrick DeBowles, but his shot would not drop. Time ran out as the Bobcats tried to control the rebound.
STAT OF THE GAME
Montevallo shot 48 percent from the floor compared to the Bobcats' 39 percent shooting from the field. Ultimately, the clutch shots late in the game allowed the Falcons to hold off their Peach Belt Conference rivals.

Montevallo will host Peach Belt Conference rival Columbus State on Senior Day in its final home contest of the regular season Saturday, February 11. Columbus State defeated Montevallo 90-76 in the first meeting between the two teams this season in Columbus, Georgia. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Trustmark Arena.
