HOW IT HAPPENED
Nationally-ranked North Georgia defeated Montevallo 6-0 in a rain shortened game in Peach Belt Conference action Saturday, March 11 at Orr Park. Game two has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
The Nighthawks, who are ranked No. 4 nationally in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NCAA Division II rankings, took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a solo homer to left-center field by Sydney Sprague.
North Georgia plated five runs in the top of the fourth inning to extend its lead to 6-0. Â Haley Robinson scored on a wild pitch and Sprague drove in two more runs with a double before play was suspended due to heavy rain for approximately 30 minutes.
After play resumed, Stephanie Harkness blasted a two-run shot over the fence in center field to plate the Nighthawks' final two runs.
The game was made official in the top of the sixth inning when heavy rain resumed.
STAT OF THE GAME
The Falcons managed two hits against North Georgia, including a single down the left-field line by freshman Holly LaForce and an infield single by junior Darbi Duke.
UP NEXT
The Falcons will host another Peach Belt Conference doubleheader Sunday, March 12 at Orr Park against visiting Young Harris College. First pitch in the opening game is tentatively set for 1 p.m.
