HOW IT HAPPENED

Montevallo split a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against visiting Young Harris, claiming a 4-3 win in the first game before falling 5-1 in the nightcap.

The Falcons' 4-3 victory in the opener marked their first ever win over the Mountain Lions.

Young Harris took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the first game of the doubleheader on a RBI single by Hannah Harrison.

The Mountain Lions pushed their lead to 2-0 on a solo homer by Jill Torres in the top of the fifth inning.

The Falcons answered back with a two-run homer down the left-field line by sophomore Lauren Van Steenwyk in the bottom half of the fifth inning to tie the game at 2-2.

Montevallo took the lead for good on a two-run shot to left field by sophomore Marisa Sosa in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Senior Jocelyn Rivera earned the win in the circle and sophomore Abbey Pratt picked up her first save of the season after recording the final out.

Young Harris jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the nightcap following a bases-loaded walk to Torres and a three-run double by Grace Botti.

The Mountain Lions extended their lead to 5-0 on a RBI single by Jeannie Perrucci in the top of the fifth inning.

Junior Kelsey Vining plated the Falcons' lone run with a RBI double in the bottom of the fifth inning.

STAT OF THE DAY

Senior Jocelyn Rivera earned her sixth win of the season in the circle in the first game of the doubleheader, surpassing her total of five wins a year ago in her first season with the Falcons.

UP NEXT

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, March 18 with a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader on the road at USC Aiken.
