HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons and the Saints squared off in the rubber match of their three-game series on Sunday afternoon.  Despite a ninth inning rally by the Falcons, the Saints were able to hold on and claim the 12-8 victory.

The Saints put up five runs in the bottom of the third inning to jump out to an early 5-0 lead over the Falcons.

Montevallo scored their first run of the game in the top of the fifth inning to make it a 5-1 ballgame off a Dom DeVille single into left center field.

The Saints scored on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the fifth inning to jump back up to a five-run lead.

The Falcons scored a run in the sixth and seventh innings to cut the Saints lead to three runs. Sebastian Samuels and DeVille each recorded a RBI, with Samuels' coming off a sacrifice fly that scored Furuto in the sixth inning and Deville's came in the seventh on a solo home run to right field.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Falcons gave up six runs as Flagler pulled out to a 12- 3 lead.

The Falcons began a rally in the top of the ninth inning to try and make a comeback against the Saints but came up short.

The rally began as the first three batters of the inning reached base, which brought Matthew Furuto to the plate.  Furuto hit a grand slam on the first pitch he saw that carried to straightaway centerfield.  Furuto plated four runs as the Falcons pulled the game to 12-7.

The final run of the game came from DeVille who drove in Samuels to make it a 12-8 ball game.

STAT OF THE GAME

Furuto and DeVille were the only Falcons to record multiple RBIs in today's game.  Furuto plated four on his grand slam and DeVille drove in three runs.

Furuto's grand slam in the ninth inning is his third this season and is currently tied for fifth nationally in home runs this season. Also, with his four RBIs in today's game, Furuto leads the nation in runs batted in with 47.
