HOW IT HAPPENED
Montevallo split a doubleheader with Lander in Peach Belt Conference play, coming from behind to win the opener 2-1 before falling 7-6 in the nightcap against the Bearcats.
The Bearcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in the opening game following a solo homer by Destiny Clyde.
Following six scoreless innings, the Falcons mounted their comeback in the top of the seventh inning. Freshman Holly LaForce led off the frame with a solo homer to center field to tie the game at 1-1. Following a groundout by senior Kaytee Keefe, junior Celestia Davila lined a double with one out before scoring on a RBI groundout by junior Kelsey Vining to give the Falcons a 2-1 lead.
Senior Jocelyn Rivera stranded a base runner in the bottom of the seventh inning to close out a complete-game victory in the circle.
Lander raced out to a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in the second game of the doubleheader, which included a two-run double by Madison Moore.
The Falcons trimmed the deficit to 5-2 in the top of the third inning when senior Hannah McCreless led off the frame with a walk before scoring on a two-run homer by Vining.
Lander extended its lead to 7-2 on a two-run homer by Chandler Carey in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Montevallo rallied late in the game with two runs in the top of the fifth inning and two runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 7-6. Freshman Haley Barnette led off the top of the fifth inning with a double before scoring on a two-run homer by Davila.
LaForce led off the top of the sixth inning with a walk before scoring on a two-run homer by junior Dylan Bailey. Barnette then reached on a walk with no outs in the inning, but she was thrown out at third base to end the inning.
STAT OF THE DAY
Montevallo finished with four home runs in the doubleheader against the Bearcats. Four separate Falcons homered in the series, including juniors Kelsey Vining, Dylan Bailey, Celestia Davila and freshman Holly LaForce.

The Falcons will return home to face Auburn-Montgomery in a non-conference doubleheader Thursday, March 23 at Orr Park. First pitch in the opener of the doubleheader is set for 5 p.m.
