HOW IT HAPPENED
Montevallo capped a doubleheader sweep of visiting Auburn-Montgomery in thrilling fashion with a 5-4 walk-off win in the eighth inning in the nightcap after defeating the Warhawks 10-5 in the opener.
Freshman Haley Barnette delivered the walk-off victory with a RBI double to right-center field with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning in the second game of the doubleheader as she plated junior Celestia Davila, who began the frame at second base due to international tiebreaking rules.
The Falcons overcame a 3-0 deficit in the nightcap after the Warhawks scored two runs in the top of the first inning on a two-run homer by Jaycie Walker and one run on a solo shot in the top of the third inning by Parker Pinholster.
Junior Dylan Bailey and sophomore Lauren Van Steenwyk blasted a pair of solo homers in the bottom of the fourth inning to trim the deficit to 3-2.
Sarah Angulo belted a solo shot down the left-field line in the top of the sixth inning to give the Warhawks a 4-2 advantage.
Barnette blasted a two-run shot to left-center field in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 4-4 before her heroics in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted the Falcons to the 5-4 victory.
Montevallo jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning in the opener. A two-run double by Davila and a RBI double by junior Kelsey Vining highlighted the frame for the Falcons.
Auburn-Montgomery trimmed the deficit to 7-4 before a solo homer by freshman Mariel Bertossi in the bottom of the fourth inning pushed the Falcons' lead to 8-4.
A solo homer by the Warhawks' Kaylin Finch trimmed the Falcons' lead to 8-5 in the top of the fifth inning, but the Falcons answered back with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to clinch the 10-5 victory.
