Falcons fall to nationally-ranked North Georgia 7-0

HOW IT HAPPENED

Nationally-ranked North Georgia defeated Montevallo 7-0 in Peach Belt Conference action in a makeup game from March 11th.

The Nighthawks, who are ranked No. 9 nationally in the latest National Fast pitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NCAA Division II rankings, took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a RBI double from Lexi Duncan.

North Georgia added three runs in the top of the third inning to extend its lead to 4-0 after a two-run homer by Sydney Sprague.  Stephanie Hartness also scored from first on a throwing error by the Falcons.

Montevallo loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth but were unable to score any runs.

In the top of the seventh, the Nighthawks extended their lead to seven after back-to-back home runs from Sprague and Hartness.

North Georgia sealed the shutout victory in the bottom of the seventh.

Montevallo freshman Holly LaForce went 2-for-2 in today's game and drew a walk.

With the win UNG is the PBC regular season Champion and the number one seed for the conference tournament. Montevallo will be the seventh seed following the loss.

STAT OF THE GAME

The Falcons managed five hits against North Georgia, but left eight runners on base.

UP NEXT

The Falcons will face off against Armstrong State in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament at 10 a.m. Friday in Milledgeville, Ga.
