Falcons Down Wolves in Conference Opener 2-1

MONTEVALLO, Ala. -- The University of Montevallo women's soccer team marked their return to the Gulf South Conference in style with a 2-1 overtime victory over the West Georgia Wolves.

The game ended in the 98th minute in dramatic fashion when Hannah Waki found goal to give the Falcons their first win in conference play.  Montevallo moved to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in GSC play.

The Wolves struck first to take a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute when Madison Cobb beat an offside trap and ran through on goal. After squandering a first-half chance, the freshman forward made no mistake, slotting a shot past Sydney Young from point-blank range.

The Falcons found an equalizer later in the second half on a corner kick from Taylor Gonzales.  The senior took a corner from the left side and the high flight allowed Kira Bochard to nod one past Jackie Donaldson and tie the game at 1-1.

Montevallo found goal a final time to seal the 2-1 victory with 2:38 left in the overtime period.  Taylor Gonzales chased down a ball and kept it in play. Her cutback pass to the top of the 18-yard box allowed a crashing Hannah Waki to net her first goal of the season and win the game.
