MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's soccer team dominated possession in a 2-0 win over visiting Albany State University in a non-conference clash Sept. 22 at Varsity Field.
The Rams kept the Falcons scoreless until the 33
rd minute when freshman
Kristen Chance opened her scoring account to give Montevallo a 1-0 lead.
After keeping the visitors at bay, Montevallo scored an assurance goal in the 58th minute. A long ball over the top found freshman
Allye Darnell, who dispatched her second goal of the campaign with ease.
Albany State had chances on either side of the break, but failed to beat sophomore
Judith Perez-Bayon. The goalkeeper from Barcelona, Spain made four saves in her first start of the season.
The Falcons will return to action Sunday, Sept. 24 in a Gulf South Conference match against Spring Hill College at 1 p.m. at Varsity Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
33' | Montevallo took the lead after dominating the first half of play through freshman
Kristen Chance. The midfielder scored her first goal of the game after
Taylor Gonzales' shot was blocked out of bounds for a throw in. A well-worked move found the Tennessee native free in the box to slot home the opening goal.
58' | The Falcons opened the second half on the front foot, but had to wait until freshman
Allye Darnell notched her second goal of the season to take command of the contest. Freshman
Christiane Malone's ball over the top was taken in stride by the forward, who rounded off an incisive attacking opportunity.
GAME NOTES
- Montevallo outshot Albany State 33-9, forcing Albany State goalkeeper Abby Whiteside into 10 saves.
- Sophomore Judith Perez-Bayon made four stops in her first start of the season at goalkeeper.
- Freshman Kira Bochard finished with a game-high five shots, while Jenna Wade led the visitors with two of her four efforts on goal.
