Falcons sweep Christian Brothers 3-0 in conference match

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The University of Montevallo volleyball team swept visiting Christian Brothers University 3-0 in a Gulf South Conference match Sept. 29 at Trustmark Arena.

Senior Kristy Bohan led the Falcons with 10 kills while hitting .563 in the match as Montevallo (6-6 overall, 2-3 in Gulf South Conference) registered its second victory in both the friendly confines of Trustmark Arena and in Gulf South Conference play this season.

Sophomore Brioni Dixon contributed a career-high nine kills and a career-best six blocks while posting a .800 hitting percentage in the victory. Freshmen Evelina Teran and Amanda Nugent added seven kills and six kills, respectively.

Freshman Liz Tisch started the match at setter and registered 17 assists, while sophomore Harley Masoner contributed 13 assists against the Buccaneers. Senior Grace Harris led the Falcons with 11 digs against Christian Brothers, which fell to 7-10 overall and 2-3 in Gulf South Conference play.

Montevallo will return to action Saturday, Sept. 30 with another Gulf South Conference match at home against Union University at 2 p.m. at Trustmark Arena.

GAME NOTES

  • Senior Kristy Bohan led the Falcons with 10 kills while registering a .563 hitting percentage in the victory.
  • Sophomore Brioni Dixon finished with a .800 hitting percentage and contributed a career-high nine kills to go along with a career-best six blocks against the Buccaneers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Falcons raced out to a 9-3 advantage following a service ace by sophomore Harley Masoner and used a 9-2 run later in the opening set to cruise to a 25-15 win in the frame.
  • Christian Brothers battled the Falcons early in the second set before Montevallo went on a 13-6 run with senior Kristy Bohan contributing a pair of kills midway through the frame to provide enough cushion in a 25-20 victory in the set.
  • The Buccaneers erased a hot start by Montevallo in the third and final set, briefly leading 7-6, before the Falcons used a 9-3 run capped with a service ace by freshman Liz Tisch midway through the frame to help close out a 25-19 win in the frame.
