HOW IT HAPPENED

17' | The Falcons took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when freshman Romee Contreras settled a throw in from freshman Medhali Hernandez an fired a shot into the upper right corner of the net.

53' | Lauren Smith scored her first of two goals in a three-minute span in the second half to tie the match at 1-1.

56' | Smith scored another goal off an assist from Emma Claire Furman to give the Choctaws a 2-1 advantage.

GAME NOTES

  • Mississippi College, which entered the match ranked No. 20 nationally in the latest United Soccer Coaches Association NCAA Division II rankings, survived a hard-fought battle against the Falcons to extend its winning streak to 11 consecutive matches and remain unbeaten in Gulf South Conference play.
  • The Choctaws outshot Montevallo 19-4 in the match, which saw Mississippi College finish with a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal in the contest.
  • Mississippi College committed 16 fouls in the match, compared to eight fouls committed by the Falcons.
