Falcons Dropped Two Matches on Final Day of GSC/SSC Crossover

Match Information

Score: Embry-Riddle 3, Montevallo 1 (25-23, 25-27, 31-33, 21-25)
Records: Montevallo (18-5 overall) | Embry-Riddle (16-8 overall)
Location: Orlando, Fla.

GAME NOTES
  • Brie Blume was the Falcons' kills leader in the match and had a season-high 17 kills.  Blume also registered 21 digs to complete her double-double.
  • Evelina Teran and Amanda Nugent were also team leaders in kills with Teran getting 13 and Nugent getting 8 kills.
  • Montevallo had six service aces in the match with Harley Masoner recording four of them. 
  • Hannah Fernandez was the teams leading blocker and denied the Eagles seven times at the net.
  • Masoner had 28 assists and 21 digs to register a double-double against the Eagles.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1
  • The Falcons and the Eagles played each other close in the opening set of the match.  In a set of multiple runs, each team had a response to keep it close.  Montevallo closed out the set with three straight points to win 25-23.
 Set 2
  • The second set transpired in a similar way as the first.  However, late in the set Montevallo found themselves trailing 23-18.  The Falcons used a 7-1 run to take a late set 25-24 advantage on the Eagles.  The Eagles closed out the set with three straight points to get the 27-25 victory.
Set 3
  • The third set was back and forth for the first part of it but the Falcons fell behind midway through the set.  The Eagles went on a 6-1 run to take a 16-13 lead over the Falcons.  Montevallo fought back and tied the game at 24-24.  Both teams fought for advantage and the Eagles closed out the set 33-31 after scoring the final two points.
Set 4
  • Montevallo got in a hole early thanks to a 7-0 run by the Eagles that gave them a 13-7 advantage midway through the set.  The Falcons fought back to make it a three-point game with a 6-0 run of their own.  However, Montevallo was unable to close the gap as the Eagles took the set 25-21.

GAME NOTES
  • Amanda Nugent recorded a double-double in the set with 14 kills and 10 digs in the match.
  • Evelina Teran and Brioni Dixon also topped the stat sheet in the kills category.  Teran had 11 kills while Dixon had seven.
  • Hanna Fernandez recorded seven blocks against the Sailfish.
  • Savannah Roys led the team with 19 assists.
  • Brie Blume led the team with 18 digs in the match for the Falcons.
HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1
  • The Falcons and the Sailfish started the set exchanging points.  Montevallo used a 10-2 run early in the set to go ahead 13-6 over the Sailfish.  Montevallo held the lead for the rest of the set and won 25-17.
 Set 2
  • Both teams had big runs to begin the second set of play.  Montevallo started with a 7-2 run to begin the set but Palm Beach Atlantic responded with a 12-2 run of their own to make it a 14-9 game.  Montevallo was unable to pull closer than within three points of the lead as the Sailfish took set two 25-20.
Set 3
  • The Sailfish opened the set on a 5-0 run but the Falcons responded with a 4-0 run to make it a 5-4 game.  Late in the set, Palm Beach Atlantic was able to push their lead up to seven points and continued to apply the pressure as they cruised to a 25-19 victory.
Set 4
  • Palm Beach Atlantic used a 14-2 run in the final set to take a commanding 16-4 lead over the Falcons.  Montevallo tried to get back in the set but came up short as the Sailfish took the final set 25-16.

The Falcons will now play at Shorter on Tuesday, October 23rd with the first service scheduled for 5:00 pm CT.
