Montevallo Falls to Flames 3-2 on the Road

GAME NOTES

  • Amanda Nugent recorded a double-double in the match with 17 kills and 22 digs.  Nugent's 17 kills was a team high in the match and her digs total was third best on the team.
  • Brie Blume also recorded a double-double in the game and had 15 kills and 24 digs.  Blume had the second most kills and digs for the Falcons in the game. Blume also eclipsed the 1,000 career dig mark in tonight's match with her play on defense for the Falcons.
  • Evelina Teran had double-digit kills in the match with 10 kills for the Falcons.
  • Hannah Fernandez had a team-high six blocks against the Flames and Brioni Dixon was second on the team with five blocks in the set.
  • Harley Masoner and Savannah Roys were almost equal in the number of assists in tonight's loss.  Masoner assisted 24 times and Roys was credited with 23.
  • Skyler Sieber had another great game in her libero spot and had a team-high 28 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1

  • Montevallo jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the set but the Flames came back with big runs in the set to take a 15-8 lead over the Falcons.  Montevallo tried to work their way back in the set but the lead was too much to overcome as the Flames held on for a 25-20 victory.

 Set 2

  • Lee took an early 5-2 lead over the Falcons and never looked back.  Montevallo struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the set and fell to the Flames 25-17.

Set 3

  • Montevallo and Lee went back and forth early in the set but Montevallo was able to make a run midway through the set to take a 15-7 lead.  Montevallo held that lead even though the Flames made a push to retake the lead but Montevallo held them off for a 25-16 set victory.

Set 4

·         Lee jumped out early on the Falcons and took a 10-4 lead.  Montevallo fought their way back into the set and trailed 22-19 late.  Montevallo went on a 5-1 run to end the set and claimed the 25-23 victory.

Set 5

·         Neither team was able to gain a big advantage over the other team in the final and deciding set.  Montevallo found themselves with a 12-10 lead late in the set but Lee was able to score four straight points to take a 14-12 lead.  Montevallo was able to tie the set at 14-14 but two straight points from the Flames sealed the 16-14 victory and the match.

Montevallo will play at Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday, November 3rd at 2:00 p.m. to wrap up the regular season.
