GAME NOTES

  • Nautika Philpot led the team with 17 points on 5-of-13 shooting and also went 6-of-7 from the free throw line.  Philpot also added two assists and three steals to her stat line.
  • Kourtnie Smith continued to lead the Falcons on the boards and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds in the game with three of them coming on the offensive glass.  Smith also scored 11 points on 3-of-8 shooting and added four steals to her stat line.
  • There was a total of 24 lead changes in the game and each team led 17 times during the game.
  • Montevallo held a 21-18 advantage in points off turnovers by taking advantage of Tuskegee's 23 turnovers.
  • Montevallo's bench was the difference in this one and outscored the Tuskegee bench 46-27 to help propel the Falcons to victory.
  • The Falcons played with tempo in tonight's game and held an 18-13 advantage in fast-break points.

RECAP

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team finished off the opening weekend of the season with a 71-65 overtime victory against in-state foe Tuskegee to close out the GSC/SIAC Challenge.

Tuskegee played the Falcons close and Montevallo needed an overtime period to secure the victory. Montevallo led at halftime but the Golden Tigers used a strong third period of play to close the gap.

Nautika Philpot led the Falcons with 17 points and went 5-of-13 shooting from the floor and also had three steals and two assists in tonight's game.

The leading rebounder for the Falcons was Kourtnie Smith who grabbed 10 total rebounds.  Smith was active on both ends of the court and had three offensive and seven defensive rebounds.

Montevallo will now hit the road for almost more than a month before returning back to Trustmark Arena.  The Falcons next game will be at Nova Southeastern on Thursday, November 15th with tipoff set for 4:30 pm CT.
