TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team defeated Saint Leo University 74-66 in its second game of the season-opening Gulf South Conference-Sunshine State Conference Challenge on a neutral court Sunday, Nov. 11 at the University of Tampa.
The Lions made just one of their final eight shot attempts from the floor to end the contest while the Falcons built their largest lead in the game.
Saint Leo opened the second half with a 7-3 run to stretch its lead to double-digits early in the second half.
The Falcons went on a 11-0 run during a five-minute span midway through the second half to turn the double-digit deficit into a one-point lead following a 3-pointer by freshman Jack Youmans in the corner, which put the Falcons up 46-45.
Montevallo outscored the Lions 28-21 the rest of the way to hold off Saint Leo for its first win of the season.
Senior Jeremiah Curtis led the Falcons (1-1) with a game-high 17 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and a perfect 8-of-8 shooting at the free-throw line.
Senior De'Marco Owens led the Falcons in rebounding for the second consecutive game with a team-high nine boards, while junior Cam Copeland again led the team with seven assists.
Montevallo will host Clark Atlanta University in its home opener Tuesday, Nov. 13 at Trustmark Arena. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
