Falcons sweep Stillman in doubleheader in home opener

GAME 1

Score: Montevallo 13, Stillman 3 (5)

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS

•    Sophomore Holly LaForce finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a triple while driving in two runs and scoring three runs.

•    Sophomore Shelby Lowery went 2-for-3 at the plate while driving in three runs and scoring one run.

•    Senior Kelsey Vining finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a double and scored two runs.

•    Junior Lady Sarah Federico went 1-for-4 at the plate with a double while driving in one run and scoring two runs.

•    Senior Darbi Duke and sophomore Brianna Stella each stole a team-high three bases in the victory.

•    Junior Alexis Bonanno earned the win in the circle after pitching two scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

•    An RBI triple by LaForce, an RBI double by Federico and a RBI single by sophomore Mariel Bertossi helped the Falcons build a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

•    Lowery drove in two more runs in the bottom of the second inning with a single up the middle to help extend the Falcons' lead to 9-1.

•    LaForce and Lowery each added a run-scoring single in the bottom of the third inning to push the Falcons' lead to 13-1.
 

GAME 2

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS

•   Sophomore Haley Barnette homered for the first time this season and finished 2-for-2 at the plate while driving in two runs and scoring one run.

•   Junior Kendra Buckley went 1-for-1 at the plate with a double and scored one run.

•   Junior Lady Sarah Federico finished 1-for-2 at the plate while driving in one run and scoring one run.

•    Senior Dylan Bailey went 1-for-2 at the plate while driving in one run and scoring one run.

•    Sophomore Brianna Stella and Barnette each finished with a team-best three stolen bases.

•    Junior Jessica Boyd earned the win in the circle after pitching a perfect inning with two strikeouts in relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED

•    Bailey drove in a run with an RBI single and junior Marisa Sosa plated a run with a RBI sacrifice fly to help the Falcons jump out to a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

•    Federico plated a run with a RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second inning to help extend the Falcons' lead to 7-1.

•    Barnette's two-run homer to right-center field and a RBI ground out by Vining pushed the Falcons' lead to 10-3 in the bottom of the third inning.

•    The Falcons plated their final two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, which included an RBI infield single by Barnette.

UP NEXT

The Falcons will travel to Montgomery, Alabama this weekend for the Gulf South Conference Opening Weekend Festival. Montevallo will face Delta State in the first game of the weekend Saturday, Feb. 17 at 12 p.m.
