MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS

•    Sophomore Mariel Bertossi blasted her first home run of the season and finished 2-for-3 at the plate while driving in two runs and scoring one run.

•    Junior Lady Sarah Federico went 2-for-3 at the plate while scoring one run and driving in one run.

•    Junior Alexis Bonanno allowed just two earned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks in four innings, which marked her longest outing of the season.

•    Junior Jessica Boyd gave up one unearned run on two hits with three strikeouts in two innings in relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED

•    A RBI single by junior Lady Sarah Federico gave the Falcons their first run and freshman Lauryn Garcia scored on a wild pitch to give Montevallo a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning.

•    Garcia scored on an error and Federico scored on a run down with senior Darbi Duke attempting to steal second base to push the Falcons' lead to 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning.

•    Bertossi homered in the top of the fifth inning to give the Falcons a 6-1 lead at the time.    
 
•    Delta State came back with five unanswered runs, including a three-run homer by Kelly Byrd, to force extra innings before the Statesmen plated the game-winning run on a RBI infield single in the bottom of the ninth inning.

UP NEXT

The Falcons will cap the GSC Opening Weekend Festival with contests against Mississippi College and Lee on the final day of action Sunday, Feb. 18.
