Falcons Outlast Knights 4-3 to Claim Game 2 Victory

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Junior Alex Pondick put in a strong outing for the Falcons only giving up two runs in his 4.2 innings of work. Pondick Struck out five batters in his first start this season.
  • Chrit Rudkin turned in a stellar relief performance pitching the final five innings of play allowing only four hits, no runs, and recording seven strikeouts.  
  • Jason Cryar's RBI walk ended the game in the 11th inning of play wrapping up a solid two RBI performance for the shortstop.
 
KEY PLAYS
  • Montevallo opened the scoring when John Michael Reed pushed across Caleb Ledbetter on a groundball in the second inning.
  • The Knights answered with two runs of their own in the third on RBIs from Zac Wiley and Griffin Neuer.
  • Tyler Krabbe doubled home Chad Wagner in the third to tie it at 2-2
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Montevallo's first run was scored in the bottom of the opening frame off when John Michael Reed grounded out to the first baseman which allowed Caleb Ledbetter to get home for the 1-0 lead.
  • A pair of runs from the Knights in the top of the second inning gave them an early 2-0 lead.
  • Montevallo tied the game up in the bottom of the third inning off a Tyler Krabbe double that scored Chad Wagner.
  • After a Sac-Fly from Jason Cryar in the fifth gave Montevallo a one-run lead, a homer from Jacob Mulcahy in the sixth tied the contest at 3-3.
  • In extra innings the Falcons found the bases loaded in the bottom of the 11th inning when Jason Cryar drew a walk that ended the game by pushing home Collin Dupree.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Chrit Rudkin picked up his second win of the season in his second relief appearance of the year putting his record at (2-1).
  • Montevallo moves to 7-3 to open the season and is now 5-1 at home.

The Falcons go for the sweep of Bellarmine tomorrow, Sunday the 18th at Kermit A. Johnson Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
