Falcons sweep Christian Brothers to open conference play

GAME 1 INFORMATION

Score: Montevallo 14, Christian Brothers 6

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS
 
Montevallo recorded 11 stolen bases today between six different players.

Darbi Duke led the Falcons in stolen bases and runs with five stolen bases and four runs.
 
Montevallo had six different players record multiple hits in the game.

Lady Sarah Federico went 4-for-5 in the game and recorded one run and five RBI.

Haley Barnette went 3-for-4 from the plate with 2 RBI and three runs. Barnette had a solo home run bottom of the 4th inning.

The Falcons' pitching staff featured three different pitchers totaling 10 strikeouts. Abbey Pratt led the team in strikeouts with 5.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Kelsey Vining reached base in the bottom of the first inning on a single down the right field line. Vining then stole second.

In the bottom of the first inning Darbi Duke singled in the infield advancing Vining to third. Duke then stole second.  Mariel Bertossi then reached after she was hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded Lady Sarah Federico doubled to center field, Vining and Duke both scored to give Montevallo the 2-0 lead, Bertossi was thrown out at home.

In the third  inning, the Buccaneers put three runs on the board on five hits in the half inning to lead 3-2.

Montevallo answered in the bottom of the third inning scoring two runs to take the lead 4-3 off an RBI single from Holly LaForce, scoring Brianna Stella.

In the top of the 4th Christian Brothers scored three runs to the lead the Falcons 6-4.

The Falcons were able to post two runs in the bottom of the 4th to tie the game at six.

In the bottom of the 5th inning the Falcons scored six runs on eight hits to lead 12-6.

In the bottom of the 6th inning the game ended on a run rule after Lady Sarah Federico singled to right center field scoring Darbi Duke to give Montevallo the 14-6 lead.

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS

Darbi Duke was the only Falcon to record multiple hits.

Four other Falcons recorded one hit in the game.

Montevallo stole seven bases in the game led by Kelsey Vining, who had three.

Dylan Bailey hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Falcons' pitching staff featured four different pitchers totaling three strikeouts and allowing six hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning when Shelby Lowery scored from third after Haley Barnette reached on a fielders choice.

Montevallo took their lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the second after Duke scored off of a sacrifice fly from Vining.

The Falcons added to their lead to go up 3-0 in the bottom of the third when Mariel Bertossi scored after Duke reached on a throwing error by the first basemen.

Christian Brothers plated one run in the top of the fifth to cut the lead to 3-1.

In the bottom of the sixth inning Montevallo extended their lead to 5-1 after a two-run home run from Dylan Bailey.

Christian Brothers scored two runs in the top of the seventh to make the final score 5-3.

The Falcons take on Christian Brothers in the final game of the series tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 24 at 12 p.m.
