Falcons split twin bill on opening day

GAME INFORMATION

MONTEVALLO HIGHLIGHTS

   •    Junior Alexis Bonanno started in the circle going 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts and allowing one earned run on four hits.

   •    Senior Darbi Duke had two hits on three at-bats, scoring one run and drawing one walk.

   •    Senior Celestia Davila had three RBI on a bases-loaded triple in the bottom of the sixth inning.

KEY PLAYS
•    Embry-Riddle led 4-0 in the top of the fifth inning after Maggie Scott scored on a single to center field by Kailah Rain.

•       Later in the top of the fifth B. Limon doubled to left field driving in Destiny Carroll giving the Eagles a 7-0 lead.

•       Celestia Davila drove in the only runs of the game for Montevallo in the bottom of the sixth inning with a bases-loaded triple, her only hit of the game.

•     Jayla Jackson pitched six innings for the Eagles and recorded seven strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED

•       Top 3: Maggie Scott reached on a fielders choice and advanced to second on a throwing error by Marissa Sosa and Mackie Chandler advanced to third, while Lisa Hop scored. Later in the inning, Kailah Rain reached on a fielders choice and Scott advanced to third and Chandler scored. Scott also scored on the play. Eagles led 3-0 at the end of the top of the third inning.

•    Top 5: Scott singled to lead off the inning and stole second base. Rain singled to center field driving in Scott to lead 4-0. Carroll doubled to center field and Drayton and Rain both scored. B Limon doubled to left to score Carroll. Eagles took a 7-0 lead over the Falcons.

•    Bottom 6: Celestia Davila tripled with the bases loaded driving in three runs.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

   •    Embry-Riddle scored seven runs on 11 hits.

   •    Montevallo scored three runs on six hits. The Falcons committed just one error.

  •   Freshmen Lauryn Garcia and Sophomore Haley Barnette both went 1-of-3 from the plate with two RBI each.
  •   Junior Amanda Ingram pitched two innings in relief allowing two hits and one earned run with one strikeout.
KEY PLAYS

  •    Montevallo led 2-0 in the top of the first inning after Kelsey Vining scored off a sacrifice fly from Haley Barnette.
  •    Georgia College tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the second inning after Haley Howell scored off of a single by Baylee Hall
  •   Montevallo took a 13-5 lead in the top of the sixth inning after Lauryn Garcia scored on a fielding error by Georgia College.
  •  Georgia College scored seven runs in the bottom of the six. Holland Coursey doubled to center field, driving in two runs to make the score 13-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED

  •   Top 1: Shelby Lowery drove in the first run of the game off a single, Darbi Duke scored. Kelsey Vining scored off of a sacrifice fly by Haley Barnette.
  •   Bottom 1: Holland Coursey doubled to right center, Hall scored.
  •     Top 2: Holly LaForce singled to second base, Vining scored.
  •    Bottom 2 : Hall singled up the middle, Howell and Deja Lester scored.
  • Bottom 3: Caroline Snider scored after Caitlyn Davis reached on an error.
  • Top 4: Vining doubled to left center, Duke scored. Lowery singled up the middle, Vining and Laforce scored.
  • Bottom 4: Snider singled to center field, Hall scored.
  • Top 5: Carlee Mullinax singled, Alexis Cortez scored.
  • Top 6: Laforce reached first base on a throwing error, Duke scored. Vining scored off of a sacrifice fly by Celestia Davila. Barnette reached first base on an error, Laforce scored. Garcia singled up the middle, Barnette and Lowery scored. Duke reached first base on a fielding error, Garcia scored.
  • Bottom 6: Sarah Couch singled up the middle, Coursey scored. Davis singled up the middle, Snider scored. Lester walked with the bases loaded, Sutton Long scored. Amber Coy reached first on an error, Couch scored. Davis scored after hall reached from a hit-by-pitch. Coursey doubled to center field, Coy and Lester scored to make the score 13-12.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  •    Georgia College scored 12 runs on 14 hits. The Bobcats committed four errors.
  •    Montevallo scored 13 runs on 11 hits. The Falcons committed three error.
  •    Mychael McMillan gets the win (1-0) in the circle for the Falcons. Abbey Pratt recorded the save, her first of the season.
  •   Kayla Price gets the loss (0-2) for Georgia College, her second of the season.
